Orthodontics is about more than creating a straighter smile. Proper tooth and bite alignment can support comfortable chewing, clearer speech, easier daily oral hygiene, and a more balanced relationship between the teeth and jaws.

At Olive Dental Solutions, we provide personalized orthodontic treatment in Tijuana, Mexico for children, teens, and adults. Our dental team evaluates your teeth, bite, gums, jaw function, and smile goals to recommend an orthodontic plan that fits your needs.

Whether you are considering traditional braces, ceramic braces, clear aligners, Invisalign, or retainer care after previous orthodontic treatment, we help you understand your options before beginning treatment.

What Is Orthodontics and Why Does It Matter?

Orthodontics is the area of dentistry focused on diagnosing, preventing, and correcting problems involving tooth alignment, bite position, and jaw relationships. Orthodontic treatment uses appliances such as braces, clear aligners, and retainers to gradually guide teeth into healthier and more balanced positions.

Crooked, crowded, spaced, or misaligned teeth may affect more than appearance. When teeth do not meet correctly, some patients experience uneven tooth wear, difficulty cleaning between teeth, chewing discomfort, speech concerns, or excessive stress on certain teeth and jaw structures.

Orthodontic treatment can help improve:

  • Tooth alignment and smile appearance

  • Bite balance and chewing function

  • Access for brushing and flossing

  • Management of crowded or overlapping teeth

  • Spacing and gaps between teeth

  • Uneven tooth wear caused by bite imbalance

  • Long-term retention after previous braces or clear aligner treatment

  • Confidence when smiling, speaking, and taking photos

Every patient is different. A complete dental evaluation is necessary to determine whether orthodontic treatment is appropriate and which treatment approach best fits your oral health needs.

Traditional Metal Braces

Traditional metal braces use brackets and wires to gradually move teeth into planned positions. They are a reliable orthodontic option for many patients, including those with more complex alignment or bite concerns.

Metal braces may be recommended for crowding, spacing, rotated teeth, bite correction, and cases that require precise control of tooth movement. Because they are fixed to the teeth, they work continuously without depending on daily wear time.

Ceramic braces work similarly to traditional braces but use tooth-colored or clear brackets designed to be less noticeable. They can be a good choice for teens and adults who want the effectiveness of fixed braces with a more discreet appearance.

Your dental provider will explain whether ceramic braces are suitable for your bite, alignment needs, and lifestyle.

Clear aligners are transparent, removable orthodontic trays designed to gradually move teeth. They can be an appropriate option for eligible teens and adults with certain crowding, spacing, alignment, or bite concerns.

Clear aligner treatment requires consistent daily use. Patients typically remove aligners for meals, drinking anything other than water, brushing, and flossing.

Invisalign is a clear-aligner system that uses a series of custom-made, removable aligners to guide teeth into planned positions over time. It is a popular choice for patients who want a discreet orthodontic option without brackets and wires.

Invisalign may be appropriate for patients with crowding, gaps, mild bite concerns, crooked teeth, or teeth that have shifted after prior orthodontic treatment.

For complete information about Invisalign candidacy, treatment planning, aligner wear, monitoring appointments, and retainers, visit our Invisalign in Tijuana, Mexico page.

Retainers are an important part of orthodontic care. After braces or clear aligner treatment, teeth may naturally shift over time. Retainers help maintain your new tooth positions and protect the progress achieved during treatment.

Olive Dental Solutions can evaluate your need for fixed or removable retainers, replacement retainers, and post-treatment monitoring.

Crowding happens when there is not enough space for teeth to align properly. Teeth may overlap, rotate, appear pushed forward or backward, or become more difficult to brush and floss.

Orthodontic treatment may create a more balanced alignment and improve access for daily cleaning.

Crowding happens when there is not enough space for teeth to align properly. Teeth may overlap, rotate, appear pushed forward or backward, or become more difficult to brush and floss.

Orthodontic treatment may create a more balanced alignment and improve access for daily cleaning.

Spaces between teeth can occur naturally, develop after tooth movement, or appear after previous orthodontic treatment. Orthodontic appliances may help close or redistribute gaps when clinically appropriate.

Teeth that are tilted, twisted, or out of position can affect smile appearance and may contribute to uneven wear or cleaning difficulties. Braces and clear aligners can gradually guide selected teeth toward more ideal positions.

A bite concern occurs when the upper and lower teeth do not meet as expected. Depending on the type and severity of the issue, orthodontic treatment may help improve the relationship between the teeth and support more comfortable function.

Some jaw-related concerns may require additional treatment or referral to an appropriate specialist. Your treatment recommendation will depend on your individual clinical findings.

Teeth can shift after braces or clear aligner treatment, especially when retainers are not worn consistently. Many adults seek orthodontic treatment because their teeth have moved since childhood or earlier orthodontic care.

A new orthodontic evaluation can determine whether retainers, limited treatment, braces, or clear aligners may help address relapse.

The Orthodontic Process: Step by Step

Orthodontic treatment is a gradual process. At Olive Dental Solutions, we explain each stage so you can understand your treatment plan, your responsibilities, and the expected follow-up schedule.

1. Consultation and Complete Oral Evaluation

Your orthodontic journey begins with a professional evaluation of your teeth, bite, gums, jaw function, existing restorations, and smile concerns. We discuss your treatment goals and review which orthodontic options may be appropriate.

Your examination may include dental photographs, X-rays, digital scans, impressions, or other diagnostic records needed to plan treatment.

2. Digital Imaging and Personalized Treatment Planning

After evaluating your records, our dental team creates a personalized orthodontic plan. This plan identifies the recommended appliance, the expected tooth movements, the estimated treatment sequence, and the type of follow-up appointments needed.

Treatment duration varies depending on the complexity of your case, your oral health, the type of appliance used, and how consistently you follow treatment instructions.

3. Fitting Your Braces or Clear Aligners

If braces are recommended, brackets and wires are placed carefully on the teeth. If clear aligners are recommended, you receive custom-made trays and instructions for daily wear and care.

We explain how to clean your teeth, manage orthodontic appliances, handle minor discomfort, and protect your treatment progress.

4. Adjustments, Progress Visits, and Monitoring

Regular progress appointments are important for orthodontic treatment. These visits allow us to evaluate tooth movement, make adjustments when needed, change wires, review aligner fit, and answer questions about your care.

Patients traveling from San Diego or Southern California receive guidance about the expected appointment schedule before treatment begins.

5. Retainers and Long-Term Smile Maintenance

Once active tooth movement is complete, retainers are usually recommended to help maintain your results. Your retention plan may include removable retainers, fixed retainers, or a combination of both.

Benefits of Orthodontic Treatment

Orthodontics can provide cosmetic, functional, and oral-health benefits. The exact benefits depend on your starting condition and the goals of your treatment plan.

Potential benefits of orthodontic treatment include:

  • Straighter teeth and a more balanced smile

  • Improved confidence when smiling and speaking

  • Better access for brushing and flossing

  • Improved bite alignment and chewing comfort

  • Reduced uneven wear on selected teeth

  • Correction of crowding, spacing, and tooth rotation

  • Support for restorative or cosmetic dental treatment when needed

  • Retention support for patients whose teeth have shifted after previous braces

  • Personalized options for children, teens, and adults

Orthodontic treatment is not a substitute for regular dental cleanings, gum care, restorative treatment, or preventive dentistry. Maintaining healthy teeth and gums before, during, and after orthodontic treatment is essential.

I had 2 crowns and a root canal done at Olive Dental Solution a week ago. The entire process took about 3 days, and cost a third what it was going to cost where I live in Northern Michigan. They were quick to respond, I got an appt in just a couple weeks, and they did everything they could to make the whole process as smooth as possible. I am very happy with my results, and would not hesitate to use them again!

Unfortunately, I had a really disappointing experience at Olive Dental and would not recommend them. We drove all the way from Orange County specifically for our appointments, and they took us about an hour late with no real apology. When I brought up the delay, I was simply told that medical appointments can run long depending on treatments. I completely understand being 10–15 minutes behind, but an entire hour feels like a scheduling issue, especially when patients have other appointments and plans. Because they were running so far behind, I actually had to skip my own treatment entirely because we had another appointment at 1:15 and no longer had enough time. Only my husband got the treatment. On top of that, I was quoted $50 for a teeth cleaning over the phone, and that was also the price advertised on their website. Once we arrived, they tried to charge me $100 instead. After a lot of unnecessary back-and-forth, they finally agreed to honor the $50 price that had originally been quoted and advertised. The front desk experience made everything worse. The woman we dealt with was rude, had a bad attitude, and showed very little concern about the fact that we had already been waiting an hour. I’ve been to other dental offices in Tijuana and have had much better experiences. I honestly wish I had waited for one of my previous offices to have an opening instead of coming here. Between the hour-long delay, the attempted price change, poor communication, and rude customer service, this was a horrible experience. I’m genuinely surprised by all of the five-star reviews because our experience was nowhere close to five stars. Definitely would not return or recommend.

Common Questions About Orthodontics in Tijuana

Get clear answers about braces, clear aligners, and personalized smile alignment at Olive Dental Solution

👥 What is the best age to start orthodontic treatment?

Orthodontic treatment can be effective for children, teens, and adults. An early orthodontic evaluation may help identify developing concerns, while adults can often benefit from braces or clear aligners as well. The right time to begin depends on dental development, bite concerns, oral health, and treatment goals.

🔍 Am I a candidate for orthodontic treatment?

You may be a candidate if you have crowded teeth, gaps, crooked teeth, a bite concern, teeth that shifted after previous braces, or a desire to improve alignment. A consultation is needed to evaluate your teeth, gums, bite, jaw relationship, and overall oral health.

Is Invisalign or braces better for my smile?

Neither option is automatically better for every patient. Invisalign and other clear aligners may be suitable for many cases, while traditional or ceramic braces may be more appropriate for certain movements or bite concerns. Your dental provider can recommend the option that best matches your needs.

How long does orthodontic treatment take?

Treatment time varies. Some limited alignment cases can take several months, while more comprehensive orthodontic treatment may take a year or longer. The duration depends on the amount of tooth movement needed, the bite, the type of appliance, patient cooperation, and the response to treatment.

🩹 Are braces painful?

You may experience pressure, tenderness, or mild discomfort after braces are placed or adjusted. This is usually temporary as your mouth adapts to the appliance. Your dental team can provide guidance on managing common orthodontic discomfort.

📅 How often will I need orthodontic appointments?

Appointment frequency depends on your treatment plan. Braces require periodic adjustments, while clear aligner treatment requires monitoring visits to assess progress and provide new aligners when needed. Your expected schedule will be discussed during your consultation.

🦷 Can I receive orthodontic treatment if I have crowns, veneers, or dental implants?

Possibly. Existing crowns, veneers, bridges, implants, and other dental restorations can affect treatment planning, but they do not always prevent orthodontic treatment. A clinical examination is needed to determine which teeth can move and what approach is appropriate.

🛡️ Do I need retainers after braces or clear aligners?

In most cases, yes. Retainers help maintain tooth positions after active orthodontic treatment. Without retainers, teeth can shift over time. Your dental provider will explain the type of retainer and wear schedule recommended for your smile.

🚐 Can I get orthodontic treatment in Tijuana if I live in San Diego?

Yes. Many patients travel from San Diego and nearby Southern California communities to Tijuana for dental care. Before beginning orthodontic treatment, it is important to confirm the expected appointment schedule and make sure you can attend the recommended progress visits.
